IFU for NRL (NATURAL RUBBER LATEX) Latex condoms are intended to prevent pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted infections. CAUTION: LifeStyles®Lubricated Latex Condoms contain natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions. This product also contains a lubricant. Some individuals are sensitive or allergic to lubricants. If you or your partner have had any reaction to natural rubber latex or lubricants, do not use this product. If you or your partner have any reaction to this product, discontinue use and seek medical attention. Effectiveness and Indications Although no contraceptive can guarantee 100% effectiveness, condoms, when properly used, are a highly effective means of preventing pregnancy without the serious side effects sometimes associated with some other methods. LifeStyles® Lubricated Latex condoms are intended for contraception and for prophylactic purposes to help reduce the risk of pregnancy and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Less than 2 women in 100 get pregnant during one year of correct and consistent use. Other contraceptive methods are more or less effective than condoms, your healthcare professional can provide further details of efficacy rates of other contraceptives. Use a new condom for every act of sex. 2. Tear open the package carefully. Do not use fingernails, teeth or anything that can damage the condom. 3. Before any sexual contact, place the condom on the head of the erect penis with the rolled side out. • Squeeze the tip of condom to remove any air. (Excess air can cause the condom to break). • Lesions, pre-ejaculate secretions, semen, vaginal secretions and blood can all transmit infectious organisms. 4. Unroll or pull the condom all the way to the base of the erect penis. If the condom doesn’t unroll easily, it may be on backwards, damaged or too old. Throw it away and start over with a new condom. 5. If you feel the condom slipping or stretching, stop and check the condom to avoid potential breakage. “6. Immediately after ejaculation, hold the rim of the condom in place and withdraw the penis while it is still erect. Avoid spilling semen.” 7. Dispose of a used condom by wrapping it in tissue and throwing it into the trash. Wash your hands with soap and water. Precautions · For single use only. Do not reuse condoms. If the condom is reused there might be an increased risk of failure or infection. · Store condoms in a cool (below 100°F), dry place and avoid exposure to direct sunlight. Protect condoms against prolonged exposure to extreme low or high temperatures, moisture and fluorescent light. · If the rubber material is sticky or brittle or obviously damaged, do not use the condom. · If the color is uneven or changed, do not use the condom. · If additional lubricant is desired, use a lubricant that is labelled as compatible with condoms. · DO NOT USE OIL-BASED LUBRICANTS, such as those made with petroleum jelly, mineral oil, vegetable oil or cold cream as these may damage the condom. Some medications applied can damage condoms, so always check with your doctor or pharmacist. Degree of STI Protection Condoms reduce the risk of transmitting STIs by providing a barrier against the source of infection. · Condoms are most effective against STIs such as HIV infection (AIDS) and gonorrhea that are spread by contact with the head of the penis. · Condoms are less effective against STIs such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and herpes. These STIs can also be spread by contact with infected skin that is not covered by the condom. Should a condom leak or burst seek medical assistance as soon as possible, at least within 72 hours.
